snowflakes, stockings, etc. A spectacular show was put up by
students on 23rd December, 2011 in a special assembly
to celebrate the festival of Christmas. Birth of Jesus was shown
in the form of a short play along with melodious X-mas carols that
left the audience spellbound. Children dressed up as Joseph, Mary
surrounded by fairies added to the celebrations. The festivities
continued with the coming of Santa Claus and singing of Christmas
Jingles. Santa distributed sweets and chocolates to all the
students.
ADVENTURE CAMP:

December 2011. The camp included many adventure activities like
Artificial Rock Climbing, Burma Bridge, Commando Crawl, River
Crossing, Tarzan Rope, etc. Students enjoyed these activities and
learnt to combat fear. The puppet show delighted and added fun to
the day. Delicious meals were served. Children went back happily &
carried with them memories of a happy day wearing SMS caps.
Nov 2011 :
SPECIAL
ASSEMBLIES:
Diwali
The students
recited Ramayana and simultaneously the scenes were depicted,
where children were dressed in colourful and traditional attire.
The abridged version of Ramayana sung rhythmically helped to
understand the long saga in an interesting and comprehensive
manner. This was followed by a skit where children were dressed as
Fire Crackers. These little crackers highlighted the dangers of
pollution through crackers, conveying the message that we should
not burn crackers and should have a safe and pollution free Diwali.
The day ended with a class party and a small Diwali gift from the
school.
Gurupurab
To celebrate
Gurupurab – a special assembly was organized on 9th
November 2011. The day started with a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ – a group of
students and teachers singing Shabad thanking the Almighty. The
children came dressed as Panj-Pyaras and recited the Mool Mantra-
Ek Omkar, conveying the message that God is one. It was followed
by the distribution of sweets & Kadaah Prasad with a lot of cheer
and energy. All the children were taken to the nearby Gurudwara-
Nanaksar. Children came back happy from Gurudwara with Prasad and
blessings.
Children’s
Day
On the occasion
of Children’s day, fun games for the students were organized on 14th
November, 2011. The icing on the cake was the magic show which was
highly enjoyed by all. The day was indeed a very special day for
all the children. They were given chocolates and a special lunch
which made the day even more memorable.
FANCY DRESS
COMPETITION:
A Fancy Dress Competition was organized on 17th
and 18th November 2011 respectively. The theme for the
competition was characters from fairy tales, Panchatantra stories
and cartoons. The children showcased a variety of characters like
Popeye, Rapunzel, Pirate, Snowhite, Chota Bheem, Tinker Bell, etc.
The costumes depicted a high level of creativity and innovation.
The dialogues they delivered were equally good. The high point was
that all the costumes were created at home and not hired from
market.
GRATITUDE DAY:
Hosted in the honour of their grandparents
'Gratitude Day' on Saturday, 12th November 2011. The school was
full of excitement as little children welcomed their dada- dadi,
nana- nani with tilak and flowers. As our dear grandparents
settled down, the day began with a heartwarming prayer by the
teachers. Little Salwanians-Aarohi Singhla from KG-A and Guntaas
from Nursery-B, recited loving rhymes in praise of grandparents.
This was followed by mesmerizing Kathputli Dance performances by
the little ones all dressed up in their colourful costumes
creating magic on stage. Now it was time for some fun and
laughter-Potato Peeling for grandfathers, and Tying Neck-tie for
grandmothers, games that won all hearts! The next event was indeed
a show stopper- 'The Ramp Walk'-where grandmas and grandpas
enjoyed themselves and displayed style and panache. Grandparents
showcased huge talent in the form of songs, poetry, jokes, and
anecdotes remembering their parenthood.
The day ended
with a vote of thanks by a proud grandmother who appreciated the
efforts of the school and parents working together as a team, and
wishing a bright and happy journey ahead!

era where on the one hand moral values are declining day by day, on the other
hand the condition of old age people is becoming pathetic in the families and

step to inculcate the moral and traditional values in the present generation of
today. The programme was started with the welcoming the grand parents. Students
presented their deepest thoughts for their grand parents. Patriotic songs and
dances made the event graceful. After it a play entitled ‘Hammare Parivar Ki

Tree Plantation at Purana Quila:
One
of the reasons of recent frequent natural disasters is- the
decreasing Green Cover of the Earth. With the increase in the
population, the trees are being cut to meet human requirements.
It’s our responsibility, therefore, to plant trees in lieu of
all those that we have cut so far. In this regard, a team of
five students from G.D.Salwan Public School accompanied by Ms.
Pratima Chawla, went to Purana Quila on July 4, 2011 where CEE

ANUBHAV at
Ayar Jungle Camp, Nanital:
Rendering
a complete person to the society is the biggest advantage of
getting education at g.d.Salwan Public School. Principal, Ms.
Vijaylaxmi Singh always takes up the responsibility of designing
young minds to help them experience a new freedom in the lap of
nature, through educational and adventurous trips.
In this
regard the school organized a trip to Ayar Jungle Camp, Nainital.
Ayar Jungle Camp is located at Ayarpatta hill, one of the seven
hills which surround the lake of Nainital. The camp rests among
varieties of oak, rhododendron, deodar and various other trees
imported from Europe during the colonial period. Ayarpatta hill
which stands on the south got its name from the Ayar trees
(Andromeda oval folia), attains an elevation of 7,443
feet diminishing gradually towards the east.
Tranquil
landscape and a large variety of flora and fauna are all some of
the attractions that this place offers.
Comfortably perched at a breathtaking altitude of 6800ft and a
distance of 335 kms from Delhi, Ayar Jungle Camp in Nainital is
a good way to learn the camping within the city forest area.
This site is above Nainital on Mallital side & offers a great
experience of living in jungle. Waking up in the morning with
chirping of birds is an experience which nature lovers enjoy a
lot.
In order
to have an experience of this gift of God on Earth, a place
surrounded by quiet ountains of darker green yet being minutes
away from the crowded town centre ,a group of 55 students along
with 4 teachers left Delhi on 17th May at 10 p.m. to
reach Camp Anubhav at Ayar Jungle, Nainital at 10 a.m. on 18th
May.
After a
brief orientation by the Camp Commander, about the camp manners,
punctuality and basic discipline, the students were allotted
their camps. This was followed by a sumptuous and mouth watering
breakfast. After which they were taken out for scrambling which
is getting to know the near by places. In order to give them a
sense of belonging the students were divided into two groups:
Mafia and Burning Souls. They were given certain tasks for which
points were given.
For the
next two days they were involved in many other adventurous
activities such as Caving, Valley Crossing, Rappelling, Face
mask, Gorilla War and Survival Trek, to name a few of them. The
Night-trek actually built confidence in them and made them
fearless and daring.
Apart from
these, there were many fun filled activities like juggling,
preparing food on their own, fun exercises and Bonfire. All this
was equally enjoyed by the students and the teachers.
It wasn’t
just any other out door trip, but a life changing experience.
The children learned to develop a strong bond with nature and
also amongst them. This extended their understanding to become
self- sustaining, to support a healthy environment and to be
nice with others.
